The Art of Taking Time

Why patience, balance and consistency matter.

We live in a world where everything is expected to happen quickly. New products, new ideas and new trends appear all the time. But I have always believed that some things are better when you take your time.

For me, cigars are one of those things.

A good cigar is not just about the tobacco or the strength. It is about how everything comes together the flavour, the construction, the balance and the experience from the first draw to the last.

That is the thinking behind VETUS.

I wanted to build a brand around a simple idea: do things properly, pay attention to the details and focus on consistency rather than trying to be different for the sake of it.

Time Is the Greatest Craftsman

The name VETUS reflects an appreciation for things that stand the test of time. The same idea influences how I want the brand to look, feel and develop.

I am not interested in following every trend or making promises that a product cannot live up to. I would rather focus on getting the fundamentals right and building something that can grow steadily over time.

That means paying attention to the details, making considered decisions and understanding that a good result rarely comes from rushing.

For me, this is what the phrase Time Is the Greatest Craftsman represents.

A European Perspective

VETUS is a European cigar brand, and its identity draws inspiration from European heritage, classical design and a more understated approach to luxury.

I have always preferred things that feel well considered rather than overly complicated. Good design does not need to shout for attention. Materials, proportions and details should work together naturally.

That is the approach I want to take with VETUS from the visual identity and packaging to the cigars themselves.

The aim is to create something with its own character, without losing sight of what matters most: the product and the experience it offers.

Getting the Balance Right

One of the things I value most in a cigar is balance.

Strength has its place, but it is not everything. Flavour, construction and the way a cigar develops throughout the smoking experience matter just as much.

I also believe consistency is important. It is one thing to make a good first impression; it is another to deliver an experience that people want to return to.

This is the standard I want VETUS to work towards. Not unnecessary complexity, and not exaggerated claims, but cigars with a clear identity and a sense of balance.

Of course, these are ambitions that have to be earned through the actual product. The brand can set the direction, but the cigars must ultimately deliver on it.

From the Ancient, For the Timeless

VETUS is built around the idea that some things are worth preserving, refining and passing on.

Our motto, AETERNUM PER IGNEM, reflects that spirit. It speaks to endurance through fire a reminder that character develops through a process, not overnight.

For me, building VETUS is a long-term project. There is a lot to get right, from the cigars and packaging to the people we work with and the experience we want the brand to offer.

I do not expect everything to happen at once. The important thing is to make the right decisions, learn along the way and build a brand that stays true to its original purpose.

This journal will be a place to share more about that process, as well as the ideas, craftsmanship, design and cigar culture that inspire VETUS.

There is no need to rush everything. Some things deserve the time they take.

A Note from the Founder

VETUS began with a simple idea: to build a cigar brand around the things I value most — balance, consistency, craftsmanship and respect for time.

I wanted to create something with a clear identity, inspired by European heritage and classical design, without losing sight of what matters most: the cigar itself and the experience it offers.

Building VETUS is a long-term commitment. Every detail matters, and I believe the best results come from making considered decisions rather than rushing the process.
